Background

The organization was established with an aim of being a voice to the voiceless poor children in the world. The carry out programs that are aimed at making children live a life that will enable them take care of themselves and others in future.

The basis of the organization has been the promotion of children rights international, regional and local instruments. We also work to empower the family and the community at large making them able to care for their children.

We work to fill the exiting gaps in the community that can not be met by the government and the private (for-profit) in rural and urban areas

Vision:

A society devoid of children’s rights violation where all children have equal opportunity to maximize their potential”.

Mission:

To support and advocate for the needs and rights of children who are affected by natural catastrophes in Uganda. Joy for Children strives to increase the resources available to Implement and strengthen the capacity of families and communities to care for children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Poverty and conflict”.

To achieve the above vision and mission, our programs cover Food and Nutrition, water and sanitation, children’s resource centre, health (HIV/AIDS, Malaria and childhood illnesses), Child Advocacy, Education and Child Sponsorship.

Projects

Joy Education centers: We construct schools in areas where children walk long distances to the nearest school. The schools will have both primary and secondary section with both boarding and day facilities for the poor and needy children. The will also have a medical center to serve both the children and the community.

The initial schools will be constructed in Kampala, Kabarole and Kyenjojo districts in western Uganda.

Agricultural Projects: The project is designed to enable child and widow headed families increase their income and improve their nutritional status.

Livestock is one of the quickest ways to get people out of poverty. Giving animals like pigs, goats, cows and chicken using demand driven approach can be a tool to raise peoples income. We also assist in crop farming transforming families from subsistence to commercial farmers

Rural Water project (RUWAP): Water is a strategic resource, vital for sustaining life, promoting development and maintaining the environment. Provision of safe water is still a major component when it comes to rural development. Mant people still use unprotected and unsafe water. Long distances to collect safe water (between 1.5 to 16 kilometers) even people from sites with protected water sources are forced to use unprotected sources because the cost and congestion of safe water points.

Joy Medical Centre: We facilitate medical centers to give affordable services to the community especially the children. Children are very vulnerable to diseases especially malaria. If not given quick treatment many lives can be lost. The clinic charges little user fee and those who can not afford that they exchange their labor in our programs for treatment. This is done to make the program sustainable. Though we give simple treatment due to lack of equipments and medical kits. We tend to also establish strong lab to make it easy for people to access the services in terms of distance and cost.

School Outreach: Due to the increasing number of child rights violation especially neglect and defilement in Uganda, we initiated and launched child rights education in schools.
